I’ve always been this way. I can count on my kids to be fully conscious of what they’re doing, how they’re feeling, how they’re acting, and what they’re looking forward to. But sometimes I wonder how people can avoid these thoughts and thoughts that really happen. It may be hard for some people to tell you about the past, the present, or even the events that they’re seeing in their daily lives.
It may be hard for some people to tell you about their thoughts about the future, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have them. According to many psychologists, it takes about two to three years to train a person to be able to notice their own thoughts. I suspect that the first step to being able to notice your own thoughts is to understand you yourself.
The key to being able to think about yourself is to be able to understand yourself. The easiest way to do this is to consider yourself a member of a larger group. Every individual you meet is the sum total of millions of years of experience and ideas of other people, and every piece of that is the sum total of what you have personally experienced and what other people have experienced, too.
The easiest way to understand yourself is to actually be yourself, because the self you’re describing is not the self you actually are. It is an illusion that you are that specific person. The reality, and the reality that you are, is that you are a collection of all the people who have ever existed. You are just so much more than that.
This is why I don’t take every article on this website as gospel. There is a wide range of viewpoints on any given topic on this website. But, the core of this philosophy is that human beings are not the sum of their experiences, but a collection of all the experiences they have ever had. We are not the sum of our experiences, but the product of everything that has ever happened to us.
Perfectly wounded? How is that possible? How is it that we are just a collection of all the experiences we’ve had? We have had experiences, and we will continue to have them, but there is no reason that those experiences should be able to hurt or have an effect on us. In fact, it’s pretty hard to imagine that ever happening.
This is one of the most important concepts to understand about the human mind, and about the human experience. Our experiences are simply a bundle of experiences that we’re constantly having. But the mind is a software program that can take any event and make it seem like it was caused by a certain set of experiences, or by a certain set of thoughts.
